The Kinship Care Program will provide information, advocacy, counseling, referrals and resources to any adult who is raising someone else’s child. This means:

  • Advocacy to help kinship caregivers apply for the Non-Parent Caregiver grant, Medicaid and Child Care subsidy (if applicable) at the Department of Social Services. Also assistance with free school meals (breakfast & lunch)
  • Legal Advocacy with Family Court paperwork and understanding the Family Court process.
  • Counseling for kinship caregivers, kinship children and kinship families
  • Parenting Groups using the Parenting A Second Time Around curriculum
  • Help Line for information and referrals to available community resources
  • Youth Advocate services and the Love U2 program. This program helps kinship teenagers learn about healthy relationships while participating in fun activities
  • Support groups and workshops related to kinship care topics

Privately owned charity that gives mattress sets to those in need, both children and adults. A photo ID is required. This is a first come, self-service program. You must be able to lift, carry, load, and transport the mattresses. There is a limit of three mattresses per household; only one twin mattress is allowed. The Bed4Kids program runs Monday – Friday, 10:00am – 5:00pm. Call the above phone number for availability and address.

We are a coalition of community-based organizations and volunteers serving Tioga County and neighboring communities. We work together to enhance the lives and well-being of our neighbors, particularly aging, disabled, homebound, and isolated residents, by providing access to needed services through informal caregiving assistance. We seek to support and expand services throughout Tioga County with the intent of helping all residents live high quality lives and remain independent in their homes as long as possible.
In 2012, 140 Tioga County Neighbors Helping Neighbors volunteers provided 3,000 hours of service to 160 of their neighbors, driving over 26,700 miles.
Trained Neighbors Helping Neighbors network volunteers provide the following informal caregiving services at no cost to their neighbors:
o Transportation for medical and health-related appointments, grocery shopping, picking up supplies at the pharmacy, social events, and more
o Information and Referral Services
o Friendly phone calls and visits
